Every Sunday throughout the year, the club programme will usually include two walks. Each walk is planned and arranged by a leader who is responsible for the route taken and the overall control of the walk. Walks are graded to indicate to members the likely length of the walk:

When there are two walks, one will normally be an easy walk, the other rather longer - this choice is to ensure that the club caters for the widest range of aspirations. Club Members will normally meet at the Pavilion Gardens Car Park at 9:30am for long walks or 10:00am for easy walks - from here, cars are often used as transport to the start of the walk. Walks will usually finish sometime between 3:00 and 6:00pm, depending on length, so a packed lunch is normally required. Whilst cafes and/or public houses will often feature on most walks, in general they should not be relied upon. Most members find it is useful to bring along a hot drink in a flask. Dogs are welcome on most walks, provided they are kept under strict control, especially in the vicinity of livestock. |
Details of forthcoming walks and events are provided on the current programme page - please contact the leader for further details of any individual ramble. Whilst you will not need sophisticated mountaineering equipment for walks, Peak District weather and terrain can be notoriously fickle, so as a minimum walking shoes or boots are necessary, together with warm clothing, waterproof clothing and a small rucksack to carry it all. If you are likely to travel in someone's car, please bring a change of footwear (or boot covers) so that you can avoid bringing in mud on boots. The as part of their risk assessment leaders would not allow you to join a walk if they felt that you were not adequately equipped or prepared, so if you have any doubts regarding suitable equipment, please discuss in advance with either the leader, or any of the club's officers or regular members. |
